What It IsA prolapse, by definition, is a displacement of a part or organ of the body from its normal position, usually downward or outward, often resulting in it protruding from an orifice. In chinchillas, the 3 types of prolapses are penile (male only), anus and uterine (female only).  hysterectomy CausesThe most common cause of a prolapsed uterus is a blockage during pregnancy, but even those chinchillas who have never been bred can get a prolapsed uterus. SymptomsThe most obvious is the uterus will be hanging out. They may stop pooping and may lose their appetite as well. What To DoThis condition requires an emergency vet visit. The sooner the better! In most cases of this type, a hysterectomy is the most common treatment. |
